Microdermabrasion Machine
Microdermabrasion, in only a few years, has become one of the most popular skin care treatments available today. This dramatic growth in the microdermabrasion market is mainly due to the spectacular results gained from using the latest microdermabrasion machines.
Most microdermabrasion machines employ the use of a special abrasive microdermabrasion crystals of various substances including aluminum oxide. However there are some dangers associated with these substances if not used correctly. In nearly all salons and clinics aestheticians are trained to the highest of standards in the use of the microdermabrasion machine which therefore massively reduces any risk. Most risk is relating to the inhalation of the dust but this is easily avoided with care. However there has been a recent increase in the number of "crystal free" microdermabrasion machines coming onto the market.
What Is A Microdermabrasion Machine & What Does It Look Like?
Shown left is the Nue Skin microdermabrasion machine {model shown is the 500 LT Microdermabrasion with Light Therapy - Dual Medi} which is popular with skin care salons and cosmetic surgery clinics around the globe. Like many producers of microdermabrasion machines Nue Skin make their machines available for purchase or hire as they are, like most other microdermabrasion machines, rather expensive and a large investment for, often small, clinics and salons.
The microdermabrasion machine shown here uses "organic grains" rather than crystals. However the machine is also capable of using microdermabrasion crystals if you so desire.
Home microdermabrasion is now a possibility with various companies such as Neutrogena Microdermabrasion and DermaNew Microdermabrasion machines being amongst the most readily available and most reasonably priced home microdermabrasion machines at the moment with many others coming onto the market all the time.
These home machines can produce good effects but are not going to be able to produce the same results as those gained by a professional microdermabrasion treatment at a salon or clinic as the machines are vastly different and, typically, home machines are one hundredth of the price of the better professional machines.
The Classic DermaNew Microdermabrasion System is a home microdermabrasion machine which has been available for some time and remains very popular. Like most other similar kits you are provided with a small hand held unit to which you attach pads.
These pads, on the hand units, have different textures to abrase the skin and exfoliate it with the use of a cream. DermaNew's hand unit is described as being a dual speed Firming/Resurfacing Tool. This description may well be more accurate than calling it a "microdermabrasion machine". Surprisingly you are able to get good results using this system and is an excellent way of treating your skin while in between salon appointments.

On professional microdermabrasion machines the hand held unit is vastly different, actually it is completely different and bears no resemblance at all. As you can see on the picture to the right the professional aesthetician uses a professional machine which uses a hand held wand to treat the skin.
The microdermabrasion wand could be compared to a vacuum cleaner and a sand blaster in one. With the one tool the operator blasts the crystals onto the skin (it really is peinless!) while at the same time the microdermabrasion machine uses the wand to vacuum up the dust, used crystals, dead skin cells and other debris from the surface of the skin. A process which is vastly different than that used by the home microdermabrasion machines. We will look into the whole process of microdermabrasion in later articles.
